Simulate rsync with ant and mounted sftp folders

December 31st, 2008 | by admin | Posted in Yes, I'm a Geek | No Comments »

I was looking for a better way to publish web app updates to chickendoughnut and though rsync would be an easy way to go.  I didn’t find an ant rsync task but they do have a sync task that can sync two folders.  A few more googles and I found a way to mount an sftp folder on my local file system.  Peeeerfect.

“I’m Linux” Video Contest Will Probably Be a Forking Mess

This picture cracks my shit up. The stash on the Tron dude seals the deal. The linked post is definitely not the first time I have seen the pic, but I can’t remember where it came from.

Recovering a Wordpress Comment Accidentally Marked as Spam

December 16th, 2008 | by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

http://how-to-solutions.com/how-to-undo-a-wordpress-spam-comment.html

I have not had a chance to install Akismet on my new wordpress install so I have a ton of spam messages waiting moderation. When going through the comments I accidentally marked a few recent comments from Jeremy as spam. The default wordpress UI does not give you a way to “unspamify” a comment. As always, a little googling found an easy workaround.

Paint Your Walls as a Famous Movie Scene

December 16th, 2008 | by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Generally the things I create in my dreams are so wacked out that they don’t make any sense once I wake up.  Last night some of the characters in my dream did something pretty neat.  They painted a wall in their house to match a famous movie scene.  The actors in the scene were painted as shadows.  For fun, they would act out the scene.

It would be a pretty fun project to paint a couple walls and goof off.  You could go wacky and do your kitchen or keep it on the DL and go for the basement.

What scenes would you do?

As an add on idea, it could be fun to get a few couples/groups together and each write a mini scene and then roll them into a night of vingettes.

Convicted Government Official Scoreboard – No F*#&% Way

December 15th, 2008 | by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

On the tails of the Illinois Gov. Blagojevich story, the New York Times ran an article yesterday showing the number of convicted government officials by state since 1998.  These are officials convicted in federal public corruption cases at the local, state, and federal level.

I know that we elect some real dirt bags but the high numbers really shocked me.

By State:

  1. 824 – Florida
  2. 704 – New York
  3. 565 – Texas
  4. 555 – Pennsylvania
  5. 547 – California
  6. 502 – Ohio
  7. 418 – Illinois
  8. 380 – Jew Jersey
  9. 380 – D.C.
  10. 332 – Louisiana

Embedding Picasa Web Album Images

December 11th, 2008 | by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I’ve noticed that Picasa Web Album images won’t always show up if you just copy the image source from your browser and try to embed it into another page.  It seems that adding “?imgmax=800″ to the end of the url fixes the problem.
